Course aim

This course is designed for students who have been selected by Air Navigation Service Providers to become Aerodrome Flight Information Officers. Students who pass the course receive a student certificate of competency for Aerodrome Flight Information Service.

After successful completion of this course, the students have:

  • Knowledge, skills, and understanding in accordance with the approved training objectives.
  • Skills to perform AFIS safely, expeditiously, orderly, and according to rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of the importance of teamwork and knowledge of human-factors-related issues that can affect personal and team performance.

Course structure

This course duration is 25 days and the program consists of a blend of theoretical events and simulator exercises.

The theoretical training covers general AFIS topics and AFIS at the simulated aerodrome specifically. We deliver this training through classroom, classroom-based practical exercises, and e-learning. We always thoroughly discuss the theory behind a new element before we move on to simulation training.

The practical training consists of exercises in a 3D simulation of a generic airspace at a generic aerodrome, training all aspects of the AFIS service. We tailor the exercises to the future working environment of the students, meaning they have the appropriate complexity and traffic amount.
