Introduction

Entry Point North offers the Shared qualification stream which is a common qualification that all air traffic safety electronics personnel must have, as well as five Qualification streams. All streams are in accordance with the EASA ANNEX XIII - Part-PERS requirements for service providers concerning personnel training and competence assessment Subpart A - Air Traffic Safety Electronic Personnel.

Any Qualification stream and course can be taken individually or several can be selected as a combination.

Participants should have completed a basic ATSEP course at Entry Point North or other recognised training academy prior to starting an ATSEP Qualification course.

Shared stream

The Shared stream course is a common qualification that all air traffic safety electronics personnel must have. The Shared Qualification course covers the following subjects:
  • Safety
  • Health and safety
  • Human factors

Communication - COM

The Communication course contains two streams: COM-Voice and COM-Data.

Common COM course subjects:
  • Transmission path
  • Recorders
  • Functional safety
Specific COM-Voice stream subjects:
  • Air/ground
  • Ground/ground
Specific COM-Data stream subjects:
  • Introduction to networks
  • Protocols
  • National, European and global networks

Navigation - NAV

The Navigation course contains six streams NAV-NDB, NAV-DF, NAV-VOR, NAV-DME, NAV-ILS and NAV-MLS.

Common NAV course subjects:
  • Performance based navigation
  • GNSS
  • On board equipment
  • Functional safety
Specific stream subjects:
  • NAV-NDB: NDB/Locator
  • NAV-DF: DF
  • NAV-VOR: VOR
  • NAV-DME: DME
  • NAV-ILS: ILS
  • NAV-MLS: MLS

Surveillance - SUR

The Surveillance course contains three streams: SUR-PSR, SUR-SSR and SUR-ADS.

Common SUR course subjects:
  • HMI
  • Surveillance data transmission
  • Functional safety
  • Surveillance data processing systems
Specific stream subjects:
  • SUR-PSR: primary radar
  • SUR-SSR: secondary radar
  • SUR-ADS: ADS

Data processing - DP

The Data Processing course covers the following subjects:
  • Communication: data - introduction to network - protocols - national networks
  • Surveillance - primary: ATC surveillance - use of PSR for ATS
  • Surveillance - secondary: SSR and MSSR - use of SSR for ATS - introduction to Mode S - multilateration - MLAT principles
  • Surveillance - HMI - ATCO HMI
  • Surveillance - data - technology and protocols
  • Functional safety
  • Data processing systems
  • Process
  • Data

Systems, monitoring & control - SMC

The Systems, Monitoring & Control course contains four streams: SMC-COM, SMC-NAV, SMC-SUR, and SMC-DAT.

  • Communication - data - European networks - network technologies
  • Communication - data - global networks - network technologies: networks and standards - description - global architecture - air/ground and ground/ground sub-networks - air/ground applications
  • Communication - recorders
  • Navigation - performance based navigation - nav concepts - NOTAM

  • ANS S/E
  • SMC TPP
  • Technology - technology & principles: general - navigation - facilities
Specific SMC-COM stream subjects:
