Course aim
The course is aimed at air traffic controllers or trainee air traffic controllers who intend to take the English language proficiency test.Course objectives
After completing the course, participants have:- Deeper knowledge of Aviation English and ICAO phraseology.
- The knowledge and ability to confidently communicate in real-life situations in aviation.
- The ability to understand and respond to RT messages.
- A precise understanding of the requirements of the test.
Course overview
The course comprises classroom training consisting of:- Role play exercises
- Tasks based on listening exercises
- Aviation-relevant discussions
- Vocabulary exercises
- Picture description tasks
The focus is on listening comprehension, speaking and vocabulary. To familiarise participants with the test, each task of the test is practised every day (see Content in brief). The English language proficiency test is taken at the end of the course.
Prerequisites
The training is designed for participants with a pre-intermediate or higher level of English.Compliance with regulations
In accordance with ICAO Doc 9835 (Manual on the Implementation of ICAO Language Proficiency Requirements) it is mandatory for air traffic controllers to demonstrate minimum level 4 language proficiency both in the use of phraseology and plain language.Content in brief
