Course aim
This course is developed for operational or student controllers who have completed their ADI or AFIS training and will operate at a digital tower. It provides a theoretical background to enhance the controllers’ understanding of the unique aspects of working at a digital tower facility. Additionally, the course prepares them for unit training.
After completion of this course, the participants:
- Have the necessary knowledge to perform their controller or information functions safely in a digital tower environment.
- Understand both the limitations and benefits of operating in a digital tower environment.
Course structure
The standard course is 5 days in duration and consists of theory lessons. It can be delivered at any location with suitable classroom or conference facilities and can be equipment-specific depending on the customer’s requirements. Digital Tower Operation simulation can be added to a course.

The course covers topics such as, but not limited to:
- Digital tower operations overview.
- Licensing and regulations.
- Special rules and exceptions.
- Equipment limitations.
- Equipment unserviceabilities.
- Human factors: differences between traditional tower control and digital operations, operating multiple towers simultaneously, prioritisation and scheduling of work.
Prerequisites
- A successful completion of our ADI course, AFIS course or equivalent.
- English language skills at ICAO level 4 or higher.
Compliance with regulations
- The course is compliant with Eurocontrol NPA 2017-21.
