As a breakthrough in ATM training, Entry Point North is now providing Surveillance and On-the-job training (OJT) including final validation on a simulator for Helicopter Flight Information Service (HFIS) Operators.
The training is being provided to existing HFIS operators who are going to implement ADS-B equipment in their unit. The training program and the final check – validation have been approved by the national regulator. Experts from Entry Point North, the regulator and HFIS operations have together performed the 2-3 hour long final validation for each participant.
The entire training program (including special training in unusual and emergency situation handling) and final validation was performed on the actual simulated airspace designed by Entry Point North. The relevant traffic exercises were developed in close cooperation with the client to reflect “real life” as accurately as possible. In order to define the requirements and the regulatory aspects for OJT and validation, the national regulator, the client and Entry Point North have been working closely together for several months.
“There are obviously several important benefits of using the simulators for OJT” – says Andreas Fredriksson, Sales Manager at Entry Point North. “It allows for the replication of precise traffic scenarios to incorporate abnormal situations, different weather conditions, traffic volumes and complexities whilst at the same time optimising the OJT quality by reducing time and costs. It also decreases the burden for operators to deal with OJT while handling live traffic, as well being able to minimise safety risk when implementing new equipment”.
Within the next month, 16 HFIS operators will have passed both training and OJT, and at the unit the first ADS-B operations has been taking place with a good result. Entry Point North is especially pleased being able to assist the client in handling needed training in a flexible and time/cost saving manner and at the same time being a first mover performing actual OJT and validation at simulators.
