How ATSEP Online Training works in practice

Ever wondered what actually happens after you log in to ATSEP Online Training?

Entry Point North provides a complete ATSEP Online Training setup used by ANSPs and CNS providers worldwide.

ATSEP competence must be maintained in an environment where systems evolve, regulations are detailed and staff cannot be away from operations for long periods.

Built on established regulations and defined competencies

Entry Point North designs ATSEP Online Training with the regulatory framework and the competencies ATSEPs need in the field as the starting point.

All ATSEP online courses are mapped to:

  • ICAO Doc 10057
  • EASA Regulation 2017/373 and the related European ATSEP competence criteria

Learning objectives, course content, assessments and certificates follow these frameworks. In practice, this means the online courses share the same backbone as classroom training.

At the same time, the courses are built for learners. Content is broken down into short steps with visuals, interactive elements and regular knowledge checks. Participants can monitor their progress, revisit topics when needed and prepare for the final exam with confidence.

A portfolio that supports different training needs

To support different roles and stages in an ATSEP career, the online portfolio consists of three course types.

1. ATSEP Initial Courses

Courses that cover ATSEP Basic, Shared and selected Qualification domains, depending on role and system responsibility. Successful completion leads to a Training Certificate for Basic, Shared and the chosen domains.

2. Qualification Domain Courses

Modules focusing on specific technical areas such as:

  • COM (Communication)
  • NAV (Navigation)
  • SUR (Surveillance)
  • SMC (Systems, Monitoring and Control)
  • DPR DP (Data Processing)

These can be used both for initial competence in a new domain and for further development later in the career.

3. Refresher Courses

Online refreshers for certified ATSEPs who require periodic updates. They support organisations in demonstrating continued competence in line with regulatory and internal requirements.

Across all course types, exams are delivered online as multiple choice tests with randomised questions and a 75 percent pass mark. Participants who pass receive a course certificate that can be used for both individual records and audit documentation.

Two delivery formats for operational flexibility

Operational reality is different from place to place. To reflect that, ATSEP Online Training is offered in two main delivery formats.

On Demand

On Demand gives learners 90 days of access to the full course. They decide when to study within that period, which makes it possible to combine training with shift work and local priorities. Content works on multiple devices, including mobile, so participants can continue where they left off.

Live Guidance

Live Guidance uses the same online course material, but adds scheduled virtual sessions led by an instructor. This gives:

  • a shared structure for the group
  • time for questions and clarification
  • space to discuss selected topics and examples

What learners experience

From a learner perspective, ATSEP Online Training is designed to feel structured and manageable, not overwhelming.

Typical benefits include:

  • Less travel and time away from site
Training can be completed from the workplace or from home, which makes it easier to combine with shifts and personal life.
  • Clear structure and feedback
Courses are divided into steps with short sections, visuals and checkpoints. Learners can see where they are in the course and what remains.
  • Recognised certificates
Because the courses are mapped to ICAO and EASA requirements, certificates support formal competence needs in different regulatory environments.

What it delivers for ANSPs and CNS providers

For organisations, online ATSEP training is about maintaining control and continuity in competence management.

Some key outcomes are:

  • Operational continuity
Technical staff can complete theory training without long periods away from operations, which makes planning easier and reduces pressure on rosters.
  • Standardised training across units
The same courses can be used in several units or locations, so both new and experienced staff follow the same standard.
  • Better data for follow up
Online exams and training data give managers an overview of completions and results. This supports audits, safety cases and planning of refresher activities where they are most needed.

Together, this gives ANSPs a more predictable way to keep ATSEP competence up to date, even as systems and requirements change.
