Entry Point North launches new tools for continuous assessment and coaching
Entry Point North is introducing a new suite of digital tools for continuous assessment, coaching and student reflection in practical training. The tools are designed to support clear progression, stronger student involvement and more transparent communication throughout training.
The new tools support a more structured and student-focused training experience for assessors, instructors, trainees and customers.
What is new
A new tool for student reflection and instructor feedback will be introduced. It is designed to encourage student participation and reflective practice.
An important part of Entry Point North’s training philosophy is student in focus and helping trainees take responsibility for their own learning. In practical training, self-reflection supports deeper learning and personal development. It helps trainees engage with their experiences, analyse their actions and make sense of both successes and setbacks.
By reflecting regularly, trainees build self-awareness, critical thinking and a clearer understanding of how to improve. For instructors, student reflections provide valuable insight into each learner’s progress and mindset, which supports more personalised and effective coaching.
We strongly believe that reflective practice in practical training is an important step towards the aim defined in our Initial Training Plan:
“In addition to imparting learners with the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to provide safe, orderly and efficient ATC service, the main aim of the EPN Group’s initial training is to foster responsible and reflective learners that are fully prepared to take own responsibility for their learning during unit training and additionally to take active part in the unit safety culture including just culture, the reporting culture and no blame culture.”
In addition, we are introducing a new assessment tool to support continuous assessment and the Competency-Based Training and Assessment, CBTA, concept. With this tool, assessors can assess continuously and provide coaching and guidance to trainees in real time.
The assessment tool also supports seamless integration with a tailored and personalised Development Plan. A Development Plan is a structured roadmap designed to help trainees improve performance and reach full competence. It connects assessment outcomes with targeted learning strategies so that trainees receive the support they need to progress effectively.
The tools are integrated into Entry Point North’s existing digital learning environment, which makes them easy to use for both students and staff. Reports will still be available where needed, but the main purpose of the system is to support students through feedback, coaching and a clearer way forward.
Core advantages
1. Continuous insight into student progress
Students gain a clearer view of their development through daily reflection and continuous feedback. This builds maturity, responsibility and stronger preparation for unit training.
2. Clear, regular and transparent communication
Customers receive clear progress updates through snapshots and performance overviews, making student development easier to follow throughout training.
3. Seamless instructor handovers
Shared check-ins help new instructors quickly understand what the student has been working on, which improves continuity and support.
4. Better prepared students entering unit training
Continuous reflection helps students enter unit training with greater maturity, self-awareness and a clearer understanding of their objectives and competency areas.
5. Long-term synergy through customer adoption of the same system
Customers can extend the same tools into unit training, creating one consistent coaching and assessment approach from academy training to operational readiness.
To sum up
They fully support student in focus by helping students build maturity through reflective practice and maintain a clear understanding of their strengths and weaknesses throughout training. They also support early intervention and tailored development plans.
Entry Point North will roll out the new tools across all practical training during 2026, for ATC students, FIS students, EU students and students from outside the EU. This will ensure that we are ready well in advance of the upcoming changes to Regulation (EU) 2015/340, which will apply from January 2029.
Customers gain clearer insight into student progression and will be offered the possibility to extend the same system into their own environment. Overall, the new tools support higher training quality, clearer communication and practical operational benefits. The new tools simplify processes and reduce administration. By documenting progress continuously throughout training, they also reduce the need for large end-of-course reporting and make the overall process easier to follow for both staff and students.
