Fully Operational Electronic Flight Strip System (EFS) Integrated into ATCO Simulator at Naviair, Copenhagen

We are excited to share that the Electronic Flight Strip System (EFS) functionalities for the Copenhagen Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower have been seamlessly integrated into the Entry Point North ATC simulator at Naviair, Copenhagen.

This integration allows Naviair to practice their skills in a setting that closely mirrors real operations. The system also enables the recording of exercises, including both 3D visuals of airport operations and inputs in the EFS system, making training more efficient than ever before.

This milestone is a testament to the collaborative efforts between Entry Point North, ROSE Simulation GmbH, and Naviair. It showcases our commitment to advancing air traffic control training through innovative technology.

This development underscores our collective dedication to leveraging advanced technology to enhance air traffic control training, ensuring the highest standards of safety and efficiency.

History of the Integration:

In 2023, Naviair approached Entry Point North with the possibility of replacing their existing standalone EFS in the simulator with an integrated system. Responding promptly, EPN provided a comprehensive proposal including pricing, a timeline, and the resources required from Naviair. Following Naviair’s acceptance, the development journey began.

Through a series of workshops involving EPN, ROSE, and Naviair, the EFS was meticulously developed to meet the specific needs of the training environment. The collaborative process ensured that the system was tailored to provide the most effective training experience possible.

Key Highlights of the Integration:

  • Enhanced Training Features: A main advantage is that the simulator can now pause and replay the full scenario, allowing for detailed review and analysis. Additionally, fewer simulation pilots are needed, streamlining the training process.
  • Simplified Exercise Building: Previously, creating exercises required managing two separate files—one for the simulator and one for the EFS. With the new integrated system, there is now just one file for the simulator. This streamlined approach simplifies exercise creation, making the process more efficient and user-friendly.
  • Improved Clarity and Responsibility: With the simulator now fully delivered by EPN, there is clear delineation of responsibilities. Previously, both EPN and Naviair handled updates, leading to confusion about who was responsible for what. This streamlined approach ensures that all updates and maintenance are managed by EPN, enhancing overall efficiency.

Collaborative Efforts:

The successful implementation of the EFS is the result of a strong partnership between Entry Point North, ROSE, and Naviair. The collaboration has brought together the best expertise and innovative solutions to enhance the training of air traffic control officers.

This development underscores the collective dedication to leveraging advanced technology to improve air traffic control training, ensuring the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
