Our new simulator: NorthSim

Since 2022, Entry Point North have updated the 1500+ initial training exercises to the new platform that will increase the training experience and the outcome of the training for all our customers. We added enhanced features such as the “ORBIT” position, which allows students to interact and coordinate electronically with neighbouring sectors in a very realistic manner.

Customisation and adaptability

Following the conversion of the initial training exercises, Entry Point North met with customers that also request Unit training (including refresher and conversion training). Another 1000 exercises were created together with enhancements to features and support functions that the operational staff use in their everyday working environment.

The system is very adaptable to scenarios that would be encountered in a live operational environment. E.g. sectors can be opened or collapsed during a running exercise. Allowing for Students to train handover scenarios and complex situations which enhances their knowledge and competency.

Radar environment functions

Though some of the Radar environment features aren’t new, they have certainly been enhanced to become more workable and user friendly. The new interface prepares the students better for the live operational environment with today’s advanced features they will encounter during their On-the-job training.

Military Air Traffic

Entry Point North have also adapted the 3D TWR part of the simulator to simulate real life Military operations to a higher degree, including formation take-off and landing (Holding hands or radar trail). Airbourne manoeuvres such as join and spilt in a realistic manner, with various formations that can be either built or split in a very simple way for pseudo pilots.

Stability and user interaction

Since the implementation of the new software and updates to exercises the NorthSim simulator platform is working very efficiently.

In general, we have also seen that the pilot training and situational awareness has improved.

The training goes much faster as the interface, especially in the TWR environment, is much more intuitive and user friendly. Hence giving the piloting position, a better situational awareness and hence being able to deliver a better training scenario for the students.
