Course aim
The course addresses ATSEP personnel. The aim of the course is to update and reinforce the techniques acquired on aviation meteorological systems, as well as the knowledge and skills to work with aviation meteorological equipment.Course objectives
After completing the course, the participants have:- An understanding of aviation weather in general
- Knowledge of aviation weather reports, forecasts and charts
- Knowledge of hazardous weather
- Knowledge of the weather impact on ATS
- An understanding of meteorological instruments and their usage
- Knowledge of how to identify and troubleshoot meteorological instruments
Course overview
The course is three days in length and contains theoretical lessons. A tailor-made course can be offered according to individual client needs.Prerequisites

AVIATION WEATHERExplain the significance of correct information about relevant meteorological data.
Explain the effect of air pressure and temperature an altimeter readings and the true altitude of aircraft.
Explain different types of visibility.
State how the amount of cloud and cloud base are measured and/or observed. Define cloud base and ceiling.
State how wind is measured.
Decode readings from meteorological instruments and appreciate if the values are reasonable.
AVIATION WEATHER REPORTS, FORECASTS AND CHARTS
List the most common types of weather reports and forecasts and explain their content.
List the most common types of weather charts and the information they contain.
Describe VOLMET and ATIS.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER
Describe the effect of meteorological hazards on aviation.
List the meteorological phenomena hazardous to flight.
WEATHER IMPACT ON ATS
Explain how meteorological phenomena affect the provision of ATS.
Recognise what type of meteorological equipment is required for different types of aerodromes.
METEOROLOGICAL INSTRUMENTS
Specify methods of collection and recovery of meteorological data.
Identify meteorological instruments.
Identify meteorological displays in tower environment.
Recognise the AWOS system.
