Course aim
The course provides fundamental knowledge on both incident and accident investigation to safety professionals, operational staff, and future ATM accident/incident investigators. It enables participants to carry out investigations into occurrences and to act as advisors/coordinators/ATM operation specialists in official accident/incident investigation teams.
After completing this course, the participants:
- Understand the depth of investigation required to conform to the legislation, regulations and other requirements of the state for which they are conducting the investigation.
- Understand ATM accident/incident investigation techniques.
- Understand the impact of human and latent organizational factors on an ATM-related accident/incident.
- Understand how to collect facts and preserve evidence.
- Understand how to analyse facts to determine causes and make safety recommendations.
- Understand how to write a final report that meets the requirements of the accident investigation authority of the state conducting the investigation.
- Have an understanding of Safety II.
Course structure
The course is approximately 5 days in duration, depending on the number of participants. The course consists of classroom training, discussions, a case study, and exercises.

Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites, it is however an advantage if the participants have a professional interest in accident/incident investigation.
