FIS training for ANSPs
We deliver FIS training to Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) in need of training of new staff or additional training of experienced staff. If you are:
- Heads of Training and training planners
- Operational leadership and unit training leads
- Tasked with safety, quality and compliance
- Workforce planning and competence management
- OJT stakeholders, instructors and assessors
Who the training supports
FIS training can support the following roles and use cases:
- Trainees progressing towards FISO roles at an aerodrome or enroute
- Qualified FISO who need refresher or continuation training
- Units implementing changes that require targeted refresher training
- Instructors and assessors who need practical instructor, assessor and refresher training
The challenges ANSPs face
FIS is rarely just a training question. It is a continuity and national compliance question too.
Operational pressures
- Pressure to live up to regulatory requirements
- Limited release time for training and assessments
- Small teams and limited mobility between units
- The need to keep performance consistent across operational staff
Typical challenges in practice
- Making assessment consistent across assessors
- Bridging theory to confident performance in operational environments
- Keeping competence evidence clear and defensible
- Supporting trainees without lowering standards
- Running refresher training without disrupting operations

How Entry Point North supports your FIS training needs
A structured approach shaped around your operation, designed to support consistent outcomes and national compliance needs.
Align
We align on your operational context, constraints, national requirements, target outcomes and timelines.
Design
We map a training setup using the right mix of Basic FIS, AFIS modules, continuation training and instructor or assessor development, based on your local needs.
Deliver
Training is delivered at our training centres, online, or at your site. Blended setups are used when they protect operational continuity and improve throughput.
Assure quality
We build in quality assurance, instructor alignment and feedback loops to support consistent outcomes and easier compliance demonstration.
FIS training options
Choose your starting point:
Foundation course covering core FIS theory to support progression to further FISO training; AFIS, AFIS SUR, FFS or FFP as appropriate.
Initial training for Aerodrome FIS officers, combining theory with simulator practice.
Continued Initial AFIS training adding knowledge and skills in provision of surveillance service.
Refresher training for qualified FIS operators aligned to unit needs. Theoretical training based on unit needs and practical refresher training in generic airspace on local airspace.
FIR (enroute) Flight Information Service Surveillance, Initial training for enroute FISOs providing service based on surveillance derived data.
FIR (enroute) Flight Information Service Procedural, Initial training for enroute FISOs providing service in a procedural or semi procedural environment where a procedural license is required.
Delivery options and flexibility
Most ANSPs need a delivery setup that works with staffing realities.
Available options include:
- Onsite delivery at Entry Point North for structured training groups and access to professional training environments
- On your premises delivery when travel, staffing or timelines make it the better option

FAQ
Yes. We can tailor our training to local needs. Since FIS training is not regulated internationally, our standard FIS training may not meet your national requirements. If needed, we will adapt our courses to ensure national regulatory compliance.
It depends on the pilot’s licence and background. Some pilots may not need the full Basic FIS course before a FIS rating course, but they often lack training in ATM-related subjects. Please contact us for an evaluation. We can review the candidate’s CV and do a short phone interview to assess training needs and, if relevant, propose an individual training plan.
To attend the FIS rating courses AFIS, AFIS SUR, FFS and FFP students must have completed the Entry Point North Basic FIS course or equivalent. If you are unsure if the training your students background or training is equivalent to the Entry Point North Basic FIS course, please contact us for an evaluation.
The basic FIS course is designed for AB initio FIS students (learners who are starting a subject from the very beginning, with no prior knowledge or experience in that area). However, the Basic FIS course is also a very good basic training course for other ATS related staff such as AIS officers, ATCO assistants, Flight Data Operators and similar.
Entry Point North provides Flight Information Service (FIS) training for enroute and aerodrome Flight Information Service Officers (FISOs). The training is divided into flexible, stackable modules so you can pick and choose exactly what you need. Modules include Basic FIS, FFS, FFP, Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) and AFIS with surveillance (AFIS SUR). Other modules may be available and required locally or nationally, for example Aeronautical Meteorological Observer (AMO), including local routine report observations and coding, as well as METAR.
Yes. The Basic FIS course is compliant with the relevant Swedish and Danish law and approved by the respective National Supervisory Authorities.
Yes. However, contrary to ATC training, FIS training is not regulated at an international level by, for example, ICAO or EASA. The competent authority in each country regulates FIS training at a national level, so requirements vary from country to country.
Yes. Many of our customers choose to run their training at our expanded site in Spain. Please contact Sales so we can help identify the location that best meets your needs.
Yes, in many cases we can accommodate preferred start times. Please contact Sales to discuss your request.
